Animals, treated nicely?

I read an outdated newspaper recently and observed one thing media really doesn't mind giving away...
Usually, we see that media is not complete, they're biased and their news is false or sided, but this time, they gave something away which might put those scientists working on that experiment in trouble...
Here it goes:-

A water-based gel, 'hydrogel', has shown promising results in animal trials?

You might observe,  that this test was conducted on animals...

Though it may not be poisonous or dangerous, why animals? Can't the scientists just try it on themselves if they're so sure? It's a shame, because even officials of all these animal test prevention departments allow these.

In the article, have a look at the 'screening' part of the text, there it says that "The scientists screened hundreds of substances in a list of agents generally recognised as safe, compiled by U.S Food and Drug Administration".

So it's safe enough to be tested on humans?

Then why can't they do it on themselves? (I know I sound like an extra-terrestrial organism with intel!)

Sad animals, being screened with "hundreds of substances in a list of agents generally recognised as safe".

Animals hate vaccinations as we do, and I, personally might faint if I get to know that I'm going to be screened with "hundreds of substances in a list of agents generally recognised as safe".

Let's all come together and stop these barbaric practices, generally considered as "very clean and very safe".

Give the word around to everyone and let's stop this.  Are there shortcuts, are there alternatives?
